The PokerStars.net charity tournament raised $300,000.00 for amfAR.

 

The PCA is the event that all serious poker players never miss, including hundreds of PokerStars qualifiers and Team PokerStars Pro. It’s part of the European Poker Tour, Latin America Poker Tour and the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, and is the biggest live poker tournament outside of the United States, with one of the richest prize pools anywhere in the world. Last year’s winner Poorya Nazari won his seat via PokerStars and took home prize money of an incredible $3,000,000.

Proceeds from the celebrity charity tournament will benefit amfAR - dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. Last year’s charity event at the European Poker Tour in Monaco was a huge success, covered by national & international press and broadcast media.

Adrian Grenier – He is currently starring for five seasons as “Vincent Chase” in the hit HBO television series ENTOURAGE. He also co-starred in the feature film THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.

Boris Becker - He is a former World No. 1 professional tennis player who is a six-time Grand Slam singles champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and the youngest-ever winner of the men's singles title at Wimbledon at the age of 17.

Carlos Bernard - He is currently starring in his ninth season as "Tony Almeida" on the hit FOX television series 24. He was recently nominated for an Imagen Foundation Award in the category of "Best Supporting Actor".

Fatima Moreira de Melo – She is a former Dutch field hockey player playing the striker position. She was part of the Dutch squad that became World Champion at the 2006 Women's Hockey World Cup and which won the 2007 Champions Trophy. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing she won an Olympic gold medal with the Dutch national team beating China in the final 2-0.
Jayde Nicole – She is the 2008 Playboy’s Playmate of the Year after being named the January 2007 Playboy Playmate of the Month. She is the first Canadian Playmate of the Year in 26 years.
Jérôme Le Banner - also known as "Hyper Battle Cyborg" or "The Bulldog of Normandy" is a French professional kick boxer and K-1 superstar, famous for his aggressive fighting style and knockout power. In 2000 and 2001 he held the title of K-1 World Grand Prix Champion.
Kelly Rowland – She is currently the host of the Bravo competition series THE FASHION SHOW. This year she’s had a number one hit with the single “When Love Takes Over” And selling over 50 million records worldwide, she was a founding member of the girl group DESTINY’S CHILD.
Kenneth Cole – He is a world-wide recognized clothing designer and retailer designing men & women’s clothing, footwear, and accessories. He is also a spokesperson for amfAR.

Joanna Krupa - She is the new host of the North American Poker Tour. She recently was one of the top featured celebrity dancers on Season 9 of the ABC hit television series DANCING WITH THE STARS. She is one of the most sought after supermodels in the world gracing around 100 covers of world-renowned magazines voting her the "sexiest woman in the world".

Mats Sundin – For 14 seasons he played the centre position and served as their team captain with the NHL hockey team the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. Internationally, he has won three gold medals with Sweden at the World Championships and a gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
Nelly – He is the most successful rapper on the billboard hot 100 chart, with four solo number one hits. He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has one two Grammy awards for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. He is an owner of the Charlotte Bobcats and owns to successful clothing lines, Vokal and Apple Bottoms.
'Poli' Rincón Povedano – He is a former Spanish footballer playing as a striker on the Spain team for 3 years and Betis for 8 years.

Slash – is best-known for selling over 32 million records as the former lead guitarist of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses. He was also a co-founder of the group VELVET REVOLVER and founder of SLASH’S SNAKEPIT. Time Magazine named him #2 on its list of the 10 Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time.


Team PokerStars Pros in attendance:

Barry Greenstein – A PokerStars Pro who won the 2004 World Poker Tour World Poker Open with earnings over $1.2 million. He’s won bracelets at the 2004, 2005, and 2008 World Series of Poker events. He’s also written a strategy book entitled “Ace on the River”.

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier – A Team PokerStars Pro who has won 1st place titles in the 2007 European Poker Tour, 2008 World Poker Tour, and 2009 World Championship of Online Poker. With total earnings around the $8 million mark, he’s even set the Guinness World Record for most Single Table Sit & Goes played in one hour for a total of 62.
Chris Moneymaker – A Team PokerStars Pro who won the main event at the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) winning $2.5 million and said to have revolutionized poker because he was the first person to become a world champion by qualifying at an online poker site.
Daniel Negreanu - He is a Team PokerStars Pro who has achieved possibly the greatest live tournament results record ever seen and became the highest money earner of all-time with over $12,000,000. He has won four World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour Championship titles.
Greg Raymer – A Team PokerStars Pro who earned himself a $5 million first prize for winning the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event. He is nicknamed "Fossilman" and is best known for the opaque holographic sunglasses that he sometimes wears during tournaments.
Joe Cada – In 2009 he won a 2nd Chance tournament at the 2009 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and in November became the current 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion with earnings at $8.5 million and becoming at the age of 21 the youngest champion ever.
Joe Hachem – A Team PokerStars Pro known for winning the main event of the 2005 World Series of Poker. He was the first Australian to win the main event, which earned him $7.5 million. In 2006 he won his first World Poker Tour title earning him $2.2 million. He is one of only five poker players to win both a World Series of Poker main event and a World Poker Tour championship and considered the fifth highest ranked player in live tournament career earnings.
Peter Eastgate - He is the 2008 World Series of Poker Champion Main Event with $9.1 million in winnings. He also enters the record books, as the youngest ever Main Event winner at just 22. He is also one of the highest earning players in the history of the game and puts him at the top of the money list for players from Denmark, and Scandinavia as a whole.
Vanessa Rousso – A Team PokerStars Pro and spokesperson for GoDaddy.com. In 2007 she placed second in the main event of the World Championship of Online Poker and ranks among the top five women in poker history in terms of all-time money winnings. She has placed in the money a cumulative total of eleven times in the 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009 World Series of Poker.
